“The Wave” was my final piece for my woodworking exams, a walnut desk built around a kinetic detail. Beneath the top are 24 wooden slats that create a wave-like motion when you pull one, each slat setting the next in motion. The desk sits on a slim frame in solid American walnut and includes two drawers (one on each side) with magnetic pulls and all-wood runners, no metal slides, joined with hand-cut dovetails. Each drawer also includes a lockable compartment. The work surface is faced with durable white Corian, finished in a matte lacquer for long-term everyday use.
