This table refurbishment was designed around the customer's brief: to keep her original table while making it more refined, lighter in tone and more practical with removeable extensions.

I started by flattening the solid sycamore slab using hand planes and a router sled, then re-finished with white hardwax oil to brighten. Additionally, I created custom ebonised white-oak extensions with dovetail joinery, designed to compliment the table's existing dark legs. I added a spring-loaded ball bearing to help the extensions sit securely in place. The original worm holes were filled with black 2-part wood filler to preserve the tables character and turn them into a feature.
